IDENTIFYING PROCRASTINATION

IN OUR DAILY LIFE

Believe it or not,we all procrastinate everyday. Some people are aware of this, but others are in ignorance. Below are some examples which may relate to what you did before now.

EXAMPLE 1

A is to prepare for Algebra test which is coming up two days time, she makes plan to read by 8pm. When the time came, she makes a flismy excuse to himself that since the exam is still far away, she should relax a bit that she was busy.

EXAMPLE 2

B is given some tasks to do by his boss at work.He is to submit the next day. So as usual,he is supposed to start early. But B doesn’t do that,he makes up excuses that wants to do the task at when he is best alert or focused but that time never came and he ended up not doing those tasks

EXAMPLE 3

C has a lot of chores to do, so he has to start early. But Everytime, he always postpones it to another time in the day with the excuse that he wants to gather strength (or is it laziness). He ended up finishing the work lately than expected.

AS A FORM OF LAZINESS

Let’s compare both meaning from the dictionary

PROCRASTINATION: Putting off or delaying or defering an action to a later time

LAZINESS:The art of been lazy. Lazy on the other hand means the unwillingness to perform a task

When you procrastinate, you are putting off the work from that time which means you are unwilling to the work at that time. Thus, you are been lazy.

So,any time you procrastinate, you are just been lazy!!!!!

AS AN ENEMY OF PROGRESS

From the example 1 above, if you were the boss what will you do to him?

  • Fire Him
  • Punish him
  • Reduce his salary
  • Demote him
  • Query him

Next time if you have any other project will you give him? THE ANSWER IS NO

In Example 1, will the girl will she fail or not?

TIPS ON OVERCOMING PROCRASTINATION

HAVING A SCHEDULE

Having a schedule helps organize your day’s activities and keeps you from been burnt out. Most times when you procrastinate you may have been probably burnt out. Having a schedule helps organize your work to make time for fun.Nice!!

MAKING DEADLINES

If you have a task to do in four days time, make your mind to a deadline on a nearer time like two days. Making your mind to a nearer deadline will always trigger you to do the task at the right time.Try it out,it is effective. Comment if you tried it.

WRITING REPORTS FOR HOW YOU SPENT THE DAY

After the day, bring out a book and write what you were supposed to do and Why you didn’t do it. This is another very effective method I learnt about. If you keep seeing your shortcomings, making filsmy excuses becomes less thus improving your productivity
